It is called “How to be a synodal Church in mission. Take-outs from the Final Document: ‘An Informal Reaping of the Fruits’” and it is the resource produced by the diocese of Westminster to help English Catholics understand and use the Final Document of the second session of the Synod of Bishops on synodality that took place in the Vatican from 2nd to 27th October last year. Such new material is particularly helpful in the runup to the implementation of the Synod, started by Pope Francis and leading up to an ecclesial assembly in October 2028. Every section of the Final Document has a number, and the resource created by the diocese of Westminster selects and explores a specific subject in the light of the Final Document. It starts with “Synodality is henceforth to be understood as constitutive of the Church, constitutive of a Church which goes forth in mission”, then it goes on to explore multiple facets of synodality, including what it is, what it demands of devotees, how people can be supported in their everyday joys and challenges, how to have a “conversation in the Spirit”. In addition, the material created by the diocese of Westminster tells that a synodal Church has the poor at its heart and that the Virgin Mary, Mother of Christ, identifies with a synodal, missionary and charitable Church. Lastly, such material tells how decision-making processes, involving as many people as possible, can be started and how the Final Document calls on priests and bishops to listen to lay people, and vice versa.
