“The Impact of Cost-of-Living Crisis on Social rights in the Member States of the Council of Europe”: this is the theme of an event due to be held in Strasbourg on Wednesday, 19th March, at the initiative of the European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR). The results of a review “looking into the way the cost-of-living crisis has affected the fundamental rights protected by the European Social Charter” will be presented, as the organisers explain, “and key challenges, such as inadequate social protection, reduction in real minimum wages, inaccessible housing, energy poverty and food insecurity, will be highlighted”. The review also includes recommendations to the States that signed the Charter, as to how to make sure social rights remain effective and resilient during financial crises. The event will be opened by Gianluca Esposito, Director General of Human Rights and Rule of Law, while the review will be presented by the President of the Committee, Aoife Nolan. The event is addressed to ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of the European organisation, the Secretary of the Council of Europe and the European Committee of Social Rights. However, Non-Governmental organisations and stakeholders can watch the event online (subscribe to attend the event).
