Spain: consecrated life, Bishops’ exhortation to be “pilgrims and sowers of hope” in the Holy Year

The Episcopal Commission for Consecrated Life of the Spanish Bishops’ Conference has chosen “Pilgrims and Sowers of Hope” as the theme for the 29th Day for Consecrated Life, whose celebrations will be held in Spain on Sunday 2 February. The bishop members of the aforementioned Commission have sent a message to the dioceses of the Spanish Church, highlighting first of all “the beauty of the vocations of consecrated persons – a quality that stems from the joyful news that they bring and transmit”. The Spanish Bishops in their message invite all people in this Jubilee Year to be “pilgrims and sowers of hope – a journey towards God that is proper to all the Baptised and anticipates the heavenly gifts along the pilgrimage”. The message for the Day of Consecrated Life presents the consecrated as the “flagbearers of this pilgrimage who, in turn, spread seeds of hope along the way”. The Spanish Bishops recall in particular two virtues of the people who have chosen religious life. The first one is the “prophetic mission of consecrated persons: surrounded by difficulties, these people share in the work of transmitting the message of Jesus Christ, a new hope. Consecrated persons, faithful to their identity, must remain vigilant to awaken the world”. The second virtue is “new relations”. “In a world that can be cold and individualistic, consecrated persons remind us that every human encounter should be joyful”.
