He will then travel by Popemobile through the city centre to the episcopal palace where he will eat and rest before meeting the Catholic community at the Cathedral at 4:30 pm. According to the Archdiocese’s website, Cardinal Archbishop Jean-Claude Hollerich will deliver a welcome address to the Pope, then Diogo Gomes Costa, a young participant in WYD Lisbon 2023, will talk about his experience. This will be followed by a short performance on the life of St Francis of Assisi, “Laudato Si’”, danced by young people. Then Christine Bußhardt, Vice-President of the Diocesan Pastoral Council, will present the pastoral life of the Archdiocese and Sister Maria Perpétua Coelho Dos Santos, from the Congregation of the Handmaids of Our Lady of Fatima, representing the linguistic communities, will present the life of the linguistic communities. Afterwards, Pope Francis will speak for about ten minutes and will then pause in meditation before the statue of Our Lady Consoler of the Afflicted. Cardinal Hollerich will then officially open the Marian Jubilee marking the 400th anniversary of the veneration of Mary under the title of “Consoler of the Afflicted” in Luxembourg, and the Holy Father will offer a golden rose to the Virgin before blessing the assembly.
