Poland: Krakow, 2024 conference of the European network “Future for Religious Heritage” in September. Registrations are open

Registrations are now open for the 2024 conference of the European network “Future for Religious Heritage”, which will take place on 22-24 September in Krakow, Poland, to address “the changes brought about by the emergence of new digital technologies, the effects of climate change and the way we understand, relate to and value our historic buildings and intangible heritage in 21st-century Europe”. Indeed, the title of the event is “Religious Heritage in Transition: Challenges and Solutions”. The theme will be addressed from four different angles: one is the resilience that is needed to address threats to heritage integrity such as “climate change, armed conflicts, migration, secularisation and demographic changes”. A second dimension will be the sustainability of solutions, with insights into issues such as adaptive reuse or the protection of crafts linked to religious heritage. A third aspect will be the “digital future” and the new possibilities it brings for the study, management, protection and promotion of religious heritage. The fourth dimension is the quality of life in relation to the fact that “religious heritage is often associated with various social, cultural and spiritual values, which are closely related to mental health and emotional well-being”. Hence cultural tourism, pilgrimage routes and the protection of biodiversity and green spaces will be explored. The meeting will take place at the Galicia Jewish Museum and will bring together heritage professionals, academics, policy makers at all levels, religious bodies, and European citizens. Here is the programme.
