Serbia: Zrenjanin, new bishop Stefkovic ordained. 33 prelates in attendance from seven countries

On 1 June, the new bishop of the Diocese of Zrenjanin, Mgr Mirko Stefkovic, was consecrated in the Cathedral dedicated to Ivan Nepomuk in Zrenjanin. The ceremony was presided over by Mgr Ladislav Nemet, Archbishop of Belgrade and President of the Episcopal Conference of Saints Cyril and Methodius. The main concelebrants were the Apostolic Nuncio to Serbia, Mgr Santo Rocco Gangemi, Bishop Fabijan Svalina of Srijem.

The ceremony was attended by 33 archbishops and bishops from Serbia, the Republic of North Macedonia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. “Thank you all for your presence and support”, said the new bishop at the end of the episcopal consecration. Then he added: “I sincerely thank Pope Francis for the confidence shown in appointing me Bishop of Zrenjanin”. He then asked the Apostolic Nuncio to convey his gratitude to the Holy Father.
