European elections: Mr Bassi (FAFCE) to newly elected, “responsibility for the future” of the continent and “for families”

“European citizens have entrusted you with the honour of representing them during this five-year legislature. This is a great responsibility for the Future of Europe and for European families”. Thus begins the letter that Vincenzo Bassi, President of the Federation of Catholic Family Associations (FAFCE), addressed to the elected Members of the European Parliament today. Welcoming the outcome, he shared some “reflections and proposals” for the 2024-2029 mandate to relaunch some of the issues that the FAFCE has summarised into a “political instrument” for a new family-friendly legislature, insisting on five crucial points: the demographic winter, families as an investment, work-family balance, child protection, and integral ecology. The key point is certainly that “families have a central role in the shaping of our societies” and in them Europe must invest in the coming years, and make policies for them. Mr Bassi also hopes that a Commissioner on Demography will be reappointed, as was Margaritis Schinas in the mandate that has just ended.
