EU-Council of Europe: history classes, a “toolbox” to debunk fake news and promote critical thinking

“A toolbox for history classes: debunking fake news and promoting critical thinking”: this is the tool developed by the Council of Europe and by the European Union together to help young people evaluate online and media contents, identify distortions of history, thinking critically of the contents they bump into. The set includes 11 online activities – as explained by a European release – that “help students analyse different topics, events, people and processes through historical sources and a multi-perspective approach”. There is also a free online training course available for secondary-school teachers. Such initiative will be presented at “Histolab”, the European Innovation Days in History Education, which will be starting in Strasbourg tomorrow (3-5 April) with over 150 professionals already registered to take stock of the initiatives and practices that are being developed in the area of history research and education. The winner of the Histolab award for innovative projects in schools, submitted by young competitors, will be announced at the end of the event. The European Innovation Days in History Education will be live-streamed.
