The European Commission seeks opinions on the monitoring and control of so-called “drug precursors”, that is to say, those chemicals that are legally traded and used for industrial and pharmaceutical processes, but also illegally used in the production of drugs of abuse. Indeed, from today until 10 July, it is possible to participate in the public consultation on the “Have Your Say” portal, which will help the Commission to “identify possible solutions to prevent the diversion of drug precursors”, as they are defined by the Central Directorate for Anti-drug Services, without damaging “legitimate trade”. This could lead to proposals to amend the already strict drug precursors rules, in order to combat drug trafficking and organised crime, as part of the “EU’s zero-tolerance vision on drugs”.
