On Monday, 4th March, chaired by mgr. Franz Lackner, Archbishop of Salzburg, the Episcopal Conference of Austria will convene for its Spring Plenary Meeting. The venue for the four-day meeting will be St George’s Abbey, in St. Georgen am Längensee, Carinthia. Items on the agenda will include the Synodal process, the forthcoming European election and the war in Ukraine. A key item is the structural processes currently going on in the Austrian dioceses, as explained to the Catholic news agency Kathpress by Peter Schipka, Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference. One of the staples of the four-day discussions among the Bishops is an exchange of opinions about the current social and ecclesial situation, Schipka said. On Tuesday afternoon, 5th March, mgr. Pedro Lopez Quintana, apostolic nuncio to Austria, will meet the Bishops. The Spring Plenary Meeting of the Episcopal Conference will open on Monday 4th March at 03.00pm with a prayer in the collegiate church, followed by a break for the press photo. The meeting is expected to close down on Thursday, 7th March. The highlight of the liturgy will be a Mass celebrated on Tuesday, 5th March, at 06.00pm in the Church of the “Marianum Tanzenberg” Seminar, which all believers are invited to attend. Cardinal Christoph Schönborn will officiate the Eucharistic celebration and will give a sermon.
