(Strasbourg) “Horror”: this is the word that Roberta Metsola repeated at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, at the opening of the plenary session commemorating two years since the start of the Russian aggression against Ukraine (24 February 2022). “It is a war that no one wanted, that no one provoked”, the President of the European Parliament continued. “It has resulted in deaths, suffering, destruction, innocent victims, rapes, and violence. The horror continues today as two years ago”. She then said that “Europe has united to support the Ukrainian people” which “inspire the whole world with their courage”. Metsola said that Ukrainians “are fighting not only for themselves but also for our common values”. She then recalled that Europe has supported and will continue to support “Ukraine as long as necessary”, which meanwhile has been declared a candidate country for EU membership. She pointed out that “millions of Ukrainians have been welcomed” into EU countries. And she concluded: “You can continue to count on us. Together we will win”.
