(Brussels) Tomorrow, Thursday 22 February, at 10.30am, in the premises of the European Parliament in Brussels (meeting room 4Q2, Antall building), the MEPs will discuss the state of Russia’s democratic opposition following the death of Russian anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny. “Alexei Navalny, one of Russia’s most well-known anti-corruption activists, an opposition politician and an ardent critic of President Vladimir Putin, died under mysterious circumstances – an official statement from the European Parliament says – in a remote penal colony in the Russian Arctic on Friday 16 February, while serving a long prison sentence on trumped-up charges”. It will be a joint meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, Subcommittee on Human Rights and Delegation for Relations with Russia.
