A special plenary session of the European Parliament today by video link with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, to coincide with 1000 days of Russia’s large-scale invasion. “We must do all we can to put an end to this war justly and fairly. 1000 days of war are a big challenge. We must make next year the year of peace”, Ukraine’s President said to the MEPs, then he thanked the EU for its unfailing support which managed “to prevent Putin from taking Ukraine”, as well as defend the freedom of all European nations. According to Zelensky, “Putin remains smaller than the united forces of Europe” and “we can certainly push Russia to a just peace. Peace is what we want the most”. President Volodymyr Zelensky asked to impose stricter sanctions, especially against the so-called “shadow fleets” carrying crude oil and oil products. “Putin can kill as long as these oil tankers work”, he stated, then he added: “You know very well that Putin attaches no value to people or rules, but only to money and power. These are the things we must take away from him to restore peace”. The discussion had been opened by EP President Roberta Metsola who reiterated the EU’s commitment to support Ukraine until it has “freedom and real peace for as long as it takes”, which cannot but be “built on the “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine” principle”.
