Spain: national meeting of those responsible for youth pastoral care. Focus on “Youth, Gender and Church”

The meeting of delegates and those responsible for youth pastoral care in Spain, promoted by the Sub-Commission for Youth and Children of the Spanish Bishops’ Conference, began today in Tenerife and will end on Sunday, 6 October. After today’s welcoming of the participants and the opening Mass celebrated by Mgr Arturo Ros Murgadas, Bishop of Santander and President of the organising Episcopal Sub-Commission, the central focus of the work on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 October will be “Youth, Gender and Church” under the guidance and moderation of Marta Rodriguez (a consecrated member of Regnum Christi, PhD at the Gregorian University, Professor of Philosophy at the Pontifical University Regina Apostolorum, and director of the course “Gender, Sex, and Education” at the Francisco de Vitoria University). From the programme of the days, we learn that the theme of the meeting will be developed through various talks such as “Youth pastoral care and gender”; “The maze of gender”; “Person, sex and identity”; “How do we feel about gender?’; and “Pastoral orientations – what do we need and in which direction to go?”. Participants will also be entertained by the local diocesan Caritas of Tenerife, which has organised a “theatre-dialogue” event on the phenomenon of migration to the Canary Islands and how to face it from the perspective of faith, as well as a project by Caritas Youth entitled “Charity with a young face”. The national meeting will end on Sunday, 6 October, with a closing Eucharistic celebration presided over by the Auxiliary Bishop of Barcelona, Mgr David Abadías Aurín.
