Spain: Madrid, conference of the National Office for the Cause of Saints. A focus on the “Gaudete et exsultate”

The Spanish Episcopal Conference’s Office for the Cause of Saints is organising the 11th conference of diocesan delegates for the Causes of Saints in Madrid today and tomorrow around the theme “Holiness, living against the tide. Relevance of the ‘Gaudete et exsultate’”. As planned, the opening speech will be held by the director of the Spanish Episcopal Conference’s Office for the Causes of Saints, Lourdes Grosso Garcia, who will introduce the conference, and by mgr. Francisco César García Magán (secretary general of the Spanish Episcopal Conference) about “The call to holiness in today’s world”. Then, the president of the Episcopal Commission for Evangelisation, Catechesis and Catechumenate, mgr. José Rico Pavés, will talk of “pastoral keys in the Gaudete et exsultate”. Then, the programme will continue with a workshop, with several associations telling about their experiences with the work they carry out with “the saints next door”. Tomorrow, the Canossian priest, psychologist and psychotherapist, father Amedeo Cencini, will give a speech on “Individualism and the pain of living: from misunderstanding to fear (of holiness)”. Then, a workshop on the issues of holiness in today’s world: it will be opened by the speech of the Rapporteur of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, Melchor Sánchez de Toca y Alameda. The treatment of sacredness in the media, the evolution of the image of saints through cinema, and Jubilee 2025 will be some of the points addressed in the final session of the conference.
