England and Wales: Bishops’ Conference, an appeal to devotees to take part in Cafod’s fundraising event in support of Sudan

It is from the English Bishop in charge of Africa, Paul Swarbrick, that comes the appeal to Catholic devotees to respond to the fundraising campaign that Cafod, the agency in charge of aids to Third-World countries of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, has organised in support of Sudan. A call to “act now to help the people of Sudan” and the chance, with just a click, to choose the sum of money to be sent to the African country, from 5 pounds, nearly 6 euros, to 950 pounds, nearly 1,200 euros, is available on the website of the charity (https://cafod.org.uk/give/donate-to-emergencies/sudan-crisis-appeal). Next to this amount, there is also an explanation of what can be done with that money, from clean water to hygiene kits, the chance to repair broken pipes and public toilets. It has been since the war started in April 2023 that Cafod has been closely cooperating with local charities to provide water, food and medicines, as well as money and hygiene kits, to those who have been forced to leave their homes, to refugees from neighbouring countries, who have sought refuge in Sudan looking for a home, and the communities hosting them. Also on the website of Cafod, resources are available for parishes who want to organise fundraising events after Sunday Mass, with the chance to order envelopes, where the devotees can put the amount of money they wish to donate, and a poster promoting the charity’s appeal for Sudan.
