EU Commission: Ivanova, a 5 million call for book translations and publications, “to open the doors to diverse worlds”

Five million euros to have more books circulating in Europe: this much is available in the 2004 call issued by the European Commission under the Creative Europe programme, in support of translations, publications, distribution and promotion “of various forms of European works of fiction, including novels, poetry, and comics”. This sum will be spread over 40 projects among those that will bid by April 16th this year. Projects ranging from 10 to over 21 bokos translated into at least five languages and having editorial and promotional strategies can apply. “In the rich tapestry of our European heritage”, Commissioner for Culture Iliana Ivanova commented, “each language and genre of literature adds a unique texture and colour”. The available funds will be used to open “the doors to diverse worlds, enabling novels, poetry, and even comics to reach new audiences”. It is a way to write “a stronger, more vibrant European story”. The call will pay special attention to Ukraine and to the books that may be provided to refugees and evacuees in the Ukrainian language.
