From 1st January 2024 and for the next 5 years, Rebecca Charlier-Alsberge, born in 1982, married with four children, will be the episcopal delegate for the vicariate of Brabant Walloon, in Belgium. She will be assisted by a deputy, Alain de Maere, a priest who will take care of the ordained ministers. It has been decided by the archbishop of Malines-Brussels, mgr. Luc Terlinden, “after consulting and meeting the Council of the Vicariate, the Presbyter Council and the College of Deans”, as reported in the notice that gave the news. These are appointments that “wish to fit in with the view of a synodal and missionary Church developed by our Pope Francis”, mgr. Terlinden explained to the archdiocese. Such appointment is the result of a reorganisation of the archdiocese, following the resignation of the auxiliary bishop, Jean-Luc Hudsyn. Rebecca Charlier-Alsberge, who already knows the vicariate quite well as she has been working for years in the youth pastoral service and in education next to bishop Hudsyn, said she is “grateful” for such appointment: “the responsibility I have been given feels huge but it is quite challenging. I would not have applied for such position but I answer this call with deep inner joy”. Except for the liturgical dimension, “my tasks will be the same as those of mgr. Hudsyn”, she explained, in deep connection with the archbishop of Malines-Brussels.
