“If it is adequately supported now, in these times of serious health emergency, the family is the only social institution capable of sustaining the future of the country tomorrow, when the pandemic will finally be over”. This is according to Vincenzo Bassi, President of the Federation of Catholic Family Associations in Europe (FAFCE). “Families, particularly in Italy, were already struggling to make ends meet before the crisis. Now that they have hit the rock bottom – Mr Bassi said -, they risk not being able to get back on their feet when the emergency is over. To avoid this dramatic scenario, national institutions in Europe should take bold decisions and concretely invest in the family”. Indeed, “Europe’s recovery will either start from the human capital and social cohesion that the families can guarantee or it will not happen at all”.
