(London) “The peak of the outbreak might happen at Easter, so the Catholic Bishops are thinking of asking the devotees to kneel at the Cross on Good Friday instead of kissing it”. With these words, James McManus, catholic, consultant to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales for coronavirus, announces the new preventative measures that might soon be taken by the Church for the Holy Week. In his role as director of the healthcare division in County Hertfordshire, southern England, the fifth most important in the United Kingdom, and as deputy president of the Association of directors of public health, the body that brings together all the specialists and doctors of the British Public Health System, he also assisted the British Government in these last few days. “It is important not to take excessively strict measures too soon, because citizens get tired and tend to forget about commendable behaviours”, professor McManus explains. “That’s why the Government waited some time before banning all public events or closing down the schools”. In addition, the expert explains how important it is to help elderly people and make sure no one is left without food. “The Christian Churches are working really hard in this respect and are getting organised to provide sick or fairly old people all the assistance they need”, he concludes.
