The German Federal institutions met the Sternsinger (Star Singers) at the end of their journey through the streets of Germany. Indeed, on the day dedicated to them, the Epiphany, 39 little singing Magi from the Diocese of Trier were received by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Bellevue presidential palace in Berlin. The presidential residence, usually closed on Sundays, was open yesterday for the festive reception, coinciding with the Feast of the Epiphany. The Sternsinger wrote the traditional blessing formula “20 * C + M + B + 19” on the entrance door of the Bellevue Palace. Mr Steinmeier thanked the girls and the boys for their commitment: “I think your gift is really the best thing one can imagine: you are committed to helping others and today, unfortunately, this is not always obvious”, said the president, who, together with Elke Büdenbender, made a personal donation to the Sternsinger, expressing the hope that “many people in Germany may donate to the Singers this year” to help children in need around the world. The world will be brighter “thanks to the light of the Star”. This morning, it was Chancellor Angela Merkel who welcomed to the chancellery building in Berlin 108 Star Singers from all the 27 archdioceses and dioceses of Germany, representing the 300,000 Star Singers who have literally flooded the streets of Germany during this 2019 edition. The money raised will go to projects supporting the schooling of Peruvian children with walking disabilities.
