Slovakia and Czech Republic: conference on migration and religion to be held in Bratislava

(Bratislava) – The phenomenon of migration seen through the prism of Christianity will be at the centre of an international conference due to be held on 21 February 2017 in Bratislava. The event, co-organized by the Czech and Slovak Bishops’ Conferences, will be divided into four sections, and speakers from both countries will introduce topics like the Bible and peregrination, the Church and migration, strengthening Christian identity as a response to growing migration, or migration crisis – a challenge or a threat? “Migration has various reasons. People move from one place to another because of the lack of work opportunities, ambitions to reach something extraordinary, but also because of war, conflicts or persecution motivated by religious belief”, says Archbishop Stanislav Zvolensky, president of the Bishops’ Conference of Slovakia. According to his words, the forthcoming conference is “a service that hopes to bring better understanding of the phenomenon of migration and to help assume the right Christian attitude in the light of faith and the message of Sacred Scripture”.
