EUROPEAN YEAR OF CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION: OFFICIAL LAUNCH TODAY IN PRAGUE

The official launch of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation (EYCI), whose slogan is "Imagine. Create. Innovate", will take place this afternoon in Prague at the presence of Czech Prime Minister, Mirek Topolánek, and Commission President José Manuel Barroso. According to the European Commission, the aim of the year is to contribute to "shape Europe’s future in a global competition" and to "raise awareness of the importance of creativity and innovation as key competences for personal, social and economic development," especially in the context "of the current economic slowdown." The ceremony will be preceded by a round table presided by Esko Aho, former Finnish Prime Minister. Among the participants, German inventor Mr. Karlheinz Brandenburg, French researcher Dominique Langevin and Hungarian creator Erno Rubik will adopt a set of recommendations for EU governments and institutions.
