BENEDICT XVI: AUDIENCE, WISHES FOR THE NEW YEAR

"Only if we stay united to Jesus the new year will be good and happy." These words were spoken by the Pope who, at the beginning of his first general audience of 2009, expressed "his ardent wishes for the new year." "May we reaffirm our commitment to open our mind and or heart to Christ, to be and live as his true friends." "With his company," he added "this year will be full of joy and peace, despite the difficulties we may encounter along the way." "I hope you will understand me" said the Pope to apologise for his low voice before starting the catechesis in the Paul VI hall in front of nearly 4,000 faithful. At the end he said "thanks for your patience." Besides the theme of the believers united in Christ, at the heart of his wishes for 2009, the Holy Father recalled, at the end of his audience Catechesis focused on Saint Paul, that "Christians are called to worship". Only in communion with Christ, the model man is one with God," said the Pope "and the world becomes as we all would like it to be: a mirror of divine love." "This dynamism which is always present in the Eucharist," he added extempore, "shall shape our existence. Let us begin this new year with this dynamism".
