Taizé Meeting: mgr. Jourdan (Tallinn), “giving hospitality to young Europeans means helping to share hope and peace”

“The New Year’s Meeting will bring a special present to our city: over three thousand boys and girls will come from all over Europe and beyond, in a pilgrimage of trust, bringing a message of faith and hope in the end-of-year frenzy”. This was written by the Bishop of Tallinn (Estonia), Philippe Jourdan, in a letter to the faithful of the Nordic country to encourage them to give hospitality to the young people who will come for the 47th Taizé meeting. “A large part of these young people are Catholics coming from afar to strengthen their religious life and share it with other people”, the Bishop explains, “they come as pilgrims, not knowing where they will stay or whom they will meet”, to “share joy and light in another country”, make new friends and find peace in themselves and in others through silence, prayer and singing. And this is “a sound foundation for a more beautiful, more peaceful world”. In calling Estonians to offer even just a couple of square metres of warm space and a few breakfasts, mgr. Jourdan repeats over and over again how important “sharing hope” is. “Tallinn can be our new Bethlehem”, and he wishes that “all those who come here for God may find their place”. Actually, hosting young Europeans means “helping to share hope and peace in Estonia as well as in other parts of the world through your hospitality”.
