“Prison, a Jubilee of Hope” is the motto of the XXXV national conference of Spanish chaplains and delegates for prison pastoral, an event that is being held in Madrid from today to Thursday 17th October. “The hope that does not disappoint, even in prison” will be the topic of the first speech, given by mgr. Florencio Roselló, Archbishop of Pamplona and head of prison pastoral for the Spanish Episcopal Conference. On Wednesday 16th October, the director of the secretariat of the Episcopal Committee for Evangelisation, Father Francisco J. Romero, will hold two speeches: the first one called “Jubilee 2025: Jubilee of Hope” and the second on “Proposals to work on the Jubilee in our prisons”. In the afternoon, Father Jaume Alemany, the priest in charge of prison pastoral at the diocese of Mallorca, will tell “a story of hope”, that is, the innovative shelter flats run by the association of prison pastoral of Mallorca. On Thursday 17th October, it will be the turn of Maria Carmen Nieto, national head of programmes for people deprived of freedom as part of Caritas Spain, who will give details of the programme and proposals to work with imprisoned people. The Conference will be closed by Fernando Giménez Barriocanal, deputy secretary for economic affairs at the Spanish Episcopal Conference, who will present a report on the economic situation of the agreements between the Church and the Spanish State about religious care in prisons and the agreement with the Spanish dioceses.
