Portugal: Lisbon, ordination of new auxiliary bishops Nuno Isidro and Alexandre Palma on July 21st

The episcopal ordination of the new auxiliary bishops of Lisbon, mgr. Nuno Isidro and mgr. Alexandre Palma, will take place in the church of Santa Maria de Belém in the Hieronymites Monastery on Sunday 21st July, at 04.00pm. The new auxiliary bishops will join Lisbon’s episcopal “team”, which includes the Patriarch, mgr. Rui Valério, and the auxiliary bishop, mgr. Joaquim Mendes. In a letter, the Patriarch of Lisbon invited “everyone to the diocese – priests, deacons, religious men and women, and lay devotees – to attend the Mass of ordination of the new auxiliary bishops”. Mgr. Nuno Isidro Nunes Cordeiro, 59, has been vicar general of the Patriarchate of Lisbon since 2011 and spiritual director at the Olivais’s seminary since 2017, as well as a member of the Presbyteral Council. Lastly, mgr. Alexandre Coutinho Lopes de Brito Palma, 45, was the president of the WYD Lisbon 2023 Foundation. They had been appointed auxiliary bishops by Pope Francis on June 14th.
