What do human rights mean to young generations? The question is at the centre of a photo and video competition launched today by the Council of Europe which to celebrate its 75th anniversary wants to raise public awareness of the role and impact of the pan-European institution. By 14th July, entrants can post on Instagram the shots in which they portray “the place of fundamental rights in their daily lives, how they perceive human rights or human rights protection, or how they see the future of human rights in Europe”. In November 2024, the winners will be announced during the World Forum for Democracy (Strasbourg, 6-8 November), when the winning shots will be exhibited and posted on social media and on the website of the Council of Europe. “With so many challenges in the world today”, the Deputy Secretary General, Bjørn Berge, explained, “we want to know what human rights mean to you and see those rights through your eyes. Send us your vision of human rights today in any of the four categories: photographs, videos, AI-generated photos, or AI-generated videos. Get creative, and good luck!”. The “Human rights, camera, action!” competition is open to young non-professionals under 26 years of age.
