Spain: Madrid, from today to May 22nd, National Conference on Missions and Cooperation

“Spiritual cooperation: prayer, the first missionary work” is the title of the National Conference of Diocesan Missions Delegates and National Assembly of Diocesan Directors of Pontifical Missions Societies that will take place in Madrid from this afternoon to Wednesday, May 22nd, organised by the Bishops’ Commission for Missions and Cooperation with the Churches. Today, at 04.30 pm, Mgr. Joseba Segura, Bishop of Bilbao and President of the Bishops’ Commission for Missions and Cooperation with the Churches, will welcome the participants with an opening address. After this, Mgr. Luis Argüello, president of the Spanish Bishops’ Conference, will give the first speech on “Spirituality in God’s people”. At 07.30pm, father Lino Herrero, a missionary of Mariannhill, will tell about his life experience as a missionary. Tomorrow, Tuesday May 21st, father Luis Melchor Sánchez, spiritual director of children and young people of the archdiocese of Madrid, will give a speech on the mission’s youth pastoral. This will be followed by a roundtable discussion on “How to reawaken missionary spirituality in young people”. The attendants will keep on working in groups on different themes, sharing the results. On Wednesday May 22nd, the members of the secretariats and national councils of Pontifical Missionary Societies will be elected. The presentation of the PMS report and the world missionary campaign will close these three-days of missionary meetings.
