FAFCE: from the Pope, a new call against surrogacy. Bassi, “in the frontline to protect children and women from such practice”

“It is with joy that the Federation of Catholic Family Associations in Europe (FAFCE) echoes the words spoken this morning by Pope Francis in his speech to the diplomatic Corps accredited to the Holy See, asking for a universal ban on giving birth for other people”, the so-called surrogacy. “In Rome on 5th and 6th April, an international conference – FAFCE specifies in a notice – will be focussed on the Casablanca Declaration, which aims at providing all countries with a legal instrument that bans surrogacy”. Vincenzo Bassi, president of FAFCE, signer of the Casablanca Declaration, states: “For many years now the Catholic family associations in Europe have been in the forefront to protect children and women from any attempt at legitimising such practice, and we will keep working with the many, varied and different people and organisations that endorse the Casablanca Declaration. Partly because of Pope Francis’s call, the time has come to start a solid international reflection at State level”.
