“In a violent world that is increasingly divided by devil’s work, with terrible wounds for the whole world, we need to live in the peace of God, so that every form of violence, oppression and any madness about causing wars and massacres may end”: this was written by the Romanian cardinal Lucian Mureșan in his pastoral letter for Christmas. The Major Archbishop of the Romanian Greek Catholic Church encourages Christians to be peacebuilders, who know how to love “the moral and spiritual values that make our humanity so wonderful and priceless, the humanity in which Jesus wanted to be born and raised, wanted to save”. “In those who leave their homes and families because of war and hunger, there is Baby Jesus, needing our protection and our love”, states the cardinal, who recalls “the uncertain and fleeting character of so many certainties on which we have built our lives” and that “the only real certainty is God”. Such only certainty gave hope to the Greek Catholic bishops martyred during the Communist persecution, adds card. Mureșan (92 years old), who today celebrates the 59^th anniversary of his priestly ordination, lived in secrecy back then. “Let’s not forget that the Greek Catholic Church is the child of the hope of the blessed martyr bishops and of many witnesses of the Catholic faith during the Communist persecution”.
