“The Lord has called to Himself this extraordinary herald of the faith who bore a truly beautiful witness during the rule of communism and after its fall, when he wisely led the Church in the Czech Republic”, says Msgr. Stanislav Zvolensky, president of the Bishops’ Conference of Slovakia, expressing his deepest condolences on the death of Cardinal Miloslav Vlk to Cardinal Dominik Duka, president of the Czech Bishops’ Conference, and the faithful in Bohemia and Moravia. The prelate also recalled the fruitful joint meetings of Czech and Slovak bishops in the first years of freedom after 1989, as well as the cardinal’s brave attitude and absolute devotion to God’s will when he learned about his serious disease. “We are grateful to the Lord for his life and for his example of true faith”, continues Msgr. Zvolensky. The funeral mass will take place on Saturday, March 25, 2017 in the Cathedral of St. Vitus in Prague. The remains of the late cardinal Miloslav Vlk will be exposed on Tuesday and Friday, so that the faithful can pay their respects to him in prayer.
